My photos project – Evaluation

Theme 1 – Football – Event – Friday night football tournament

The main subject for this image is a football player about to kick a ball.                                                                 

I took these photos, as I like to play and watch football, I also new that I would be able to get some good photos as I play football twice a week. It shows a footballer practicing before a match.

In this photo I used the rule of thirds rule, which means the photo is purposely to the side a little to make it more exciting and draws the attention of the audience. However on the second photo down I simply filtered all the boring colours, and made it a bit brighter and eye catching instead of plain and boring which wouldn’t of attracted much interest.

In picture one the element used is rule of thirds which draws the attention to one side of the photo, which people will find more intriguing as most photos have got there main visual image in the center of the photo.

Over all I am fairly happy with the photos I had taken. However one photo I really could of improved is the black and white photo below. This photo went all blurry, as I must have moved the camera as it was taken.

One of my photos I compared with a professional photo is shown below. My photo is the one on the right and if I’m being honest I don’t think it’s nearly as good as the professional version. This could have been down to the quality of the camera or the profession and experience of the cameraman.

Theme 2 – countryside – concept – countryside

The main subject for this photo is the sun rising over a dug up field.

I took these photos as I was brought up in the countryside from a young age and love that kind of environment. This photo shows the beginning of a new day as the sun rises over the field.

Photo one and photo two both have there own way in focusing the attention on the main subject. Photo one draws your attention to all the shadows caused by the rising sun going over an object giving a reflection on the ground. However on photo two, I turned the photo black and white leaving just the main visual image in colour, which in photo 2 is the bridge.

The element I used in picture 3 is called the Dutch angle. I think this makes the picture work as its more interesting than the previous photo shown below. With a slight angle to it, it also draws your eye to it more than the previous photo that’s just on a normal straight angle.

Over all I’m fairly happy with the photos I’ve taken because they are all fairly good quality photos. One photo that could have been improved is the photo below, the reason for this is even no it’s a good quality photo I was attempting to create a symmetrical photo here but didn’t work because of the way that the river bends off.

This is my version of a professional picture of the Internet. My photo is the one on the left and the Internet version is the one on the right. I think both photos are similar because both photos have good focus and have the same country road marks along the floor. You can also see that both photos catch the sun setting, which makes the photos that little bit more special.

Theme 3 – Pets – Portrait

The main subject is a dog chewing a spade.

I took these photos because I like animals and have been brought up with pets around me especially dogs and knew that I would easily be able to take photos as I have a lot of pets in my family.  This picture means to me the memories of being outdoors with my pets in the sun.

Both photos one and two attract

Attention to the main subject in the same way, which I believe to be down to the eye contact with the dog and the camera making it look like the dogs are looking right at you drawing your attention to the photo.

I didn’t really use any elements in this photo except slightly altering the colour scheme of the photo so that the main visual image stands out. Otherwise I believe that this photo didn’t need to change in any other way.

Overall I am happy with all of my photos in this theme of pets. However one photo that could have been improved is the one to the left, as It seems to be quite dull and boring with not much colour going on. The cats also don’t show any facial expression to make the photo more interesting and eye catching like the picture of the dog up the top of the page.

My photo is the one on the left and the professional version of the Internet is the one on the right. I think that my photo isn’t that similar to the professional version because it has a different camera shot as my version has a downward camera shot and the internet version has a straight on camera shot. However both dogs are the same breed and have similar colour patterns on them.

Theme 3 - Pets

Photo 3 = I think this photo is a good because the photo is in focus and shows a lot of detail about the chickens daily habitat.

Photo 4 = I like this photo because it is in focus, it also captures all of the detail and curiousity of the dog thanks to the close up camera shot.

Photo 5 = I like this photo because it captures the pet in his natural surroundings playing with his toys, i also like the photo because it was taken just at the right time to catch eye to eye contact with the dog and the camera.

Theme 2 countryside

I didn't do anything to this photo as i thought it couldn't really be improved by Photoshop in any way. I like this photo as it shows the true meaning of the countryside with fields and a calm countryside stream flowing down the middle of them, giving you a real sense of peace and relaxation.









I also didn't make any changes to this photo because i think if it did i might of lost the effect of the sun rising over the hill. I like this photo as it shows a country lane worn down by the constant tractor and cattle movements which gives it a more countryside scene.

 

                                                                     


This photo was not altered in any way. I like this photo as it catches the rising of the sun giving a great orange and red effect over a dug up field and with all the shadows of trees and poles it just adds more and more to the photo.









This photo was not altered in any way. I think this photo is good even no its just a tree it shows what the countryside is like as it shows big green trees and a lot of wildlife probably living in them.

                                                                     



This photo was not altered in any way. This photo is perfect for my chosen subject which is the countryside as it has everything you would expect to find in the countryside, which is big old green trees hanging over a typical country stream giving a scene you would expect to see on a movie.

 On these photos you can see i have used photo shop to highlight the main visual image that i want you to see. All though the previous photo i took was of good quality I decided to turn the photo black and white, then restore the bridge to its original colour to highlight what i want the audience to look at. I like this photo as it shows a original country lane with a old bridge going over it showing a real country atmosphere.

theme 1 - football

 

In this photo as you can see I have filtered the black of the sky and changed it to a bright purple. I think this makes my picture stand out and add a bit more to the photo to make it less boring and more appealing.

 

 

As you can see in this photo, I have decided to invert it as it was quite a bad quality photo but once it was inverted it made a completely new photo with various eye catching colours and a slight effect due to where the light was on the camera when the picture was taken.

 

In this photo I filtered the previous boring photo that I had taken, to make it more eye catching. By filtering the photo it took out the bland colours and replaced them with a bright and shiny colour.

 

This is my version of a photo that I got of the Internet. I didn’t have to do any think with it as I thought they had enough similarities as it is. my photo is the one that was taken in the dark.

 

In this photo I have added the rule of thirds rule in which I moved the main image of the picture to the side making it more interesting and clearly showing what I want the audience to look at.

 

This was another one of my poorer quality photos. I decided that there wasn’t much I could do with the photo due to the quality of it except turn it black and white. Even no turning it black and white didn’t improve the quality it seemed to add a slight dramatic sense to it.

Rule of thirds

The rule of thirds is a well known technique that makes photos more interesting and dynamic. The rule of thirds divides a photo into 9 squares then places a certain object on one of the lines crossing over the picture.
The reason the rule of thirds is so popular among photographers is because instead of normal photos that are positioned right in the middle, the rule of thirds positions the main visual image slightly to the side making the photo more appealing and interesting.
From the photos above i would say the eagle is the most effective and appealing thanks to the rule of thirds because it just concentrates on the eagle and to make it more interesting and noticeable it is positioned slightly to the right instead of being placed directly in the middle.

What makes a good photograph?

There are six different aspects you need in a photo to make it perfect and these are them seen through a photographers eyes called Charlotte lowrie.

1.  Is there a clear centre of interest? This is important as most photos show a mixed montage of different elements going on and not one clear element that the photo is based on.

2.  Is the focus tack sharp? If the photographer is trying to pin point one pacific area then the focus tack should be sharp pin pointing what the photographer believes to be the most important part of the photo.

3.  Does the photo tell a story? The difference between remembering and forgetting a photo often depends on if the picture tells a story or not as it is more eye catching.

4.  Does the lighting enhance the subject to show what the photographer wants you to concentrate on? The light on a photo should highlight and hide the best and worst bits of the photo and to set the overall tone of the photo.

How to transfer photos from a camera to a iMac?

1)  Take the photos for your project.

2)  Eject the SD card from the camera.

3)  Insert the SD card into the side of the iMac.

4)  Click on the camera icon on your iMacs home page.

5)  Then you can drag and drop the photos you want onto the desktop or into a dedicated sub folder.
